The Blakely-Schrag residence is situated on a rocky bluff overlooking Kootenay Lake. This single-level, 2000-square-foot home was designed and built by our team in 2013. The owners wanted a design that would be spacious enough for their growing family while maintaining a cabin feel.
A mixture of rustic and modern design elements gives this house a unique presence. A folding wall system connects the great room to a large sun deck that wraps three sides of the house. A plank formed concrete chase houses a zero clearance fireplace and chimney on North wall. Stained cedar siding offsets Euro style windows and doors, and composite decking material.
The Cunningham project is a 4 bedroom home designed to accommodate the extended family of Jim and Barb Cunningham through the summer months. The property has been in their family for 3 generations. We were approached in 2013 when the original cabin no longer suited the family’s needs. A renovation was proposed but later deemed to not be cost-effective. A new house with a modern feel was proposed.
The design process began with Barb and Jim sharing their needs and some images that appealed to them. The main floor is an open concept kitchen/dining/living room that is flanked by 2 master suites. A similar book matched design is used on the lower level. A two-car garage with a boat garage beneath is connected to south end of house by a breezeway.
The site proved challenging because there is a 14’ change in elevation from level entry to walk out basement. This provided opportunity for a spacious family room with high ceilings and a patio area on the lower level. Terraced plantings also help to marry the house to this steep site.
The Pelletier project was completed in the spring of 2017. Careful consideration was taken to fit this modern-craftsman style home to the historical acreage that it is built on. The lay of the land, and the panoramic view of the lake also dictated the distinctive shape of the house.
Board and batten siding and simple post and beam joinery define the exterior of the home. There are covered decks at the entry and running the full length of the main house on the lakeside. There is also a small sun deck on the south end with a shade pergola.
We built this summer home for the Huffmans in 2018 on a beautiful North facing bay on Pilot Bay Road. A split-level floor design was chosen to keep the main living area of the home as close to the beach as possible. Concrete panel and batten siding and metal cladding give the project a modern feel.
Bill Lichtenberger approached us when his family had outgrown their 800-square-foot summer cabin on Kootenay Lake. A 1200-square-foot addition was proposed for this steep site. The west wall of the living room takes advantage of a commanding view of Kootenay Lake as well as a stone-feature fireplace. We completed this project in 2019.
