The Cunningham project is a 4 bedroom home designed to accommodate the extended family of Jim and Barb Cunningham through the summer months. The property has been in their family for 3 generations. We were approached in 2013 when the original cabin no longer suited the family’s needs. A renovation was proposed, but later deemed to not be cost effective. A new house with a modern feel was proposed.

The design process began with Barb and Jim sharing their needs and some images that appealed to them. The main floor is an open concept kitchen/dining/living room that is flanked by 2 master suites. A similar book matched design is used on lower level. A two car garage with a boat garage beneath is connected to south end of house by a breezeway.

The site proved challenging because there is a 14’ change in elevation from level entry to walk out basement. This provided opportunity for a spacious family room with high ceilings and a patio area on the lower level. Terraced plantings also help to marry the house to this steep site.
